Based on the novel of the same title, The Carpenter’s Pencil is a tale of love and jealousy set against the dramatic backdrop of the Spanish Civil War. The film’s visuals are excellent, and its strong cast deliver solid performances.
In Galicia Northern Spain, young Republican doctor Daniel Da Barca (Tristan Ulloa) is engaged to be married to Marisa Mallo (Maria Adanez). Arrested for his strong left wing beliefs by nationalist Herbal (Luis Tosar), who later becomes his prison guard, Daniel is shipped from prison to prison while Marisa, who outright rejects her father’s wish for her to marry a young nationalist soldier, steadfastly fights for his freedom.
